Thursday, February 7, 2013 Old School Weekend

When was the last time you went roller-skating?  Not roller blading, roller-skating. Talk about old school, right? I remember how roller-skating was the thing to do in elementary school – the roller rink had theme nights, weekend nights exclusive to the big, cool kids (a.k.a. middle schoolers), and I can’t tell you how many of my friends had birthday parties there.

Well friends, let me tell you….roller-skating is still alive and well at Lynchburg’s FunQuest Family Entertainment Center.  And I still felt like the cool kid when I asked for “blades” instead of skates. They also have laser tag. Which was the main draw for the group of us who decided to get out and do something fun on Friday night. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures because, well, a) it’s dark inside laser tag and b) I’m way too focused on being competitive to stop and take a picture anyway.  You don’t finish the night as top scorer by taking pictures! ;)

Saturday the roomies and I embraced our inner old person at Student Activities’ Bingo Night! Normally bingo is associated with old, retired folks. Not here. The place was packed with college students ready to get their bingo on and win some cool prizes. But I mean, who wouldn’t want to try their luck at winning a Keurig, iHome, gift cards to local food places, or even a $100 Visa gift card? Also awesome was hearing everyone shout in disappointment when that first person yelled, “BINGO!!” And with how big of a success the night was, I’m sure Student Activities will make it a regular activity to look forward to!

So many people! (Photo courtesy of Liberty Student Activities)

We came close, but unfortunately none of us won.
