Thursday, January 17, 2013 A New Face For the Splash Page

A new change has come to campus – well actually, it has come to the Internet. Liberty’s old splash page got a facelift yesterday as it was integrated with the new MyLU portal. For those of you who don’t know, the splash page was our place to go, as students, for any and all important announcements. It was also the page we visited if we wanted to sign into Blackboard to check our grades, ASIST to register for classes, or to get to our email. It was pretty much our Internet lifeline at Liberty. MyLU serves the same purpose as the splash page except now students can personalize it to fit their needs by picking and choosing their own widgets. But it's not just for students; faculty/staff and alumni can use it too! It’s pretty awesome.

So what is a widget? Well it’s a little box that shows up on your MyLU page to instantly display relevant information in a condensed manner. Want instant access to your courses on Blackboard? Get the Blackboard widget. Need to know how many meal swipes and Flames Cash you’ve got left? Better add the Flames Pass widget. There’s some fun options as well like an interactive Campus Map, the Pic of the Day, and a place to add Google gadgets. You can also change the banner at the top with options like the Liberty Flames themes, scenery, and a variety of textures. It’ll take some getting used to, but I’m excited to try out the different widgets and come up with the perfect combination that will get me the information I need the most.

Here's a look at the new MyLU
