Biography

Dr. Snead joined the department in 2004 as an associate professor after teaching for five years at Texas Tech University. In the fall of 2006, he took over as the Chair of the History Department and served in that capacity until 2013.  In 2008, he was promoted to full professor.  He specializes in 20th century American diplomatic and military history.

He has published the following books: The Gaither Committee, Eisenhower, and the Cold War (1999), An American Soldier in World War I (2006), In Hostile Skies: An American B-24 Pilot in World War II (2006), and John F. Kennedy: The New Frontier President (2010).  He is currently completing revisions to a memoir by a U.S. naval ensign who served in the Philippines from October 1941 to May 1942, at the time of Japan’s invasion and conquest.  The University of North Texas Press is planning to publish the memoir in 2015.  After the completion of that project, he will renew his research on Dwight Eisenhower’s career from 1945 to 1953 and the Seabees in World War II.

Away from work, his life revolves around his family. He has been happily married to Lori Snead since 1991 and has been blessed with beautiful twin daughters, Reagan Lindsey and Delaney Nicole, born in May 1999, and a son, Darel Connor, born in December 2002. They are truly his pride and joy.
