TechnologyLiberty University’s Information Services is focused on meeting exponential growth in the use of new learning environments related to information technology.
The majority of campus has wireless capability as well as being wired for internet connectivity. Network Operations is in the process of increasing the University’s bandwidth to increase the speed of internet service across campus.
DISC Support is committed to providing computer support to all faculty, staff and students. To ensure every student has the opportunity to get online and connected to the Liberty network before classes begin, DISC Support conducts ResNet Blitz at the beginning of each semester. ResNet Blitz is a week long computer support initiative where ResNet sets up a large work station in a central student location to meet the needs of getting every student hooked up and online with Liberty’s network.
Liberty’s Information Services just recently introduced Microsoft Office Communicator to the entire university community. Microsoft Office Communicator connects all faculty, staff and students on one instant messaging system capable of accessing anyone on campus.
Information Services is also in the process of rolling out Microsoft Office 2007 and Vista to all faculty and staff. The helpdesk is preparing to support faculty, staff and students with any questions and issues that may come up as we transition to Microsoft Office 2007 and Vista.
The university is continually upgrading computers across campus to ensure students have access to current machines. The summer of 2007 computer refresh also included upgrades to all Faculty Laptops. The Integrated Learning and Research Center (ILRC) has over 500 computers in computer labs across campus, including locations on Main Campus, Campus North and Campus East. There are also specialty computer labs for Math, Language, Music, Mac and Video Production. The Graphics lab recently introduced a new Epson 7800 large format printer that produces professional photographic quality prints in sizes up to 24in wide and 100ft long.
The Fall of 2007 launched the beginning of Liberty University’s School of Engineering and Computation Sciences. Now, students can not only get a degree in Computer Science or Web Tech & Design, but also have the option of several engineering degrees, including Electrical, Industrial, Software and Computer Engineering.
Liberty is also in the process of implementing a state-of-the-art emergency notification system, including a siren, text messaging and cell phone notification capability.
