Purpose

Through the study of Family and Consumer Science (FACS) professionals seek solutions to family and societal problems by prevention, remediation and/or intervention. The goal of Family and Consumer Sciences is to enable individuals and families to function as healthy units in the larger society.

Profession

Family and Consumer Sciences is a dynamic discipline that uniquely assembles knowledge from research, the sciences, the arts, and the humanities. Professionals in family and consumer sciences are synthesizers and transmitters of knowledge to the population. A variety of challenging, profitable, and exciting career opportunities are available to graduates in family and consumer sciences.

Program

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Liberty University offers courses which lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in one of three offered majors. The curriculum includes coursework in human development/family; clothing/textiles; interior design/housing; foods/nutrition; consumer economics/management. FACS electives allow for special emphasis on individual career interests within the major.
