Provisional Acceptance Criteria

A weighted scale will be used to determine provisional acceptance into the Athletic Training Education program. The scale will be based on the following criteria:

1. Final Grade in ATTR 200 =
Grade A = 8
Grade B = 4
Grade C = 2

2. Final Grade in ATTR 210 =
Grade A = 8
Grade B = 4
Grade C = 2

3. Overall GPA (as follows) =
3.50-4.00 5 pts
3.00-3.49 4 pts
2.75-2.99 3 pts
2.26-2.74 2 pts
2.00-2.25 1 pt

4. Paper (1-5) =

5. Attendance: Lab Hours (0-8) =

TOTAL (34 possible points)

Decision-making criteria:

  • Full Provisional Acceptance (minimum 20).
  • Denied Acceptance (19 and below).
  • Students not admitted will be notified and advised by the program director.
  • Any of the following conditions will automatically preclude the student from acceptance:
  1. Overall GPA is below 2.00;
  2. Any grade below "C" in the ATTR courses, or
  3. The lab score is 0.
  • With approval of the Program Director, students below the minimum GPA may be provisionally admitted while re-taking select course work.

Accreditation standards regarding direct supervision within clinical rotations means that there is a limit to the number of students that can be accepted. As such, not all students meeting the above minimum requirements may be accepted. If this is the case, total score will be utilized in determining final acceptance. Scores represent minimum provisional acceptance standards, and are no guarantee of final acceptance.

Students meeting the requirements but not accepted may be considered the following semester. These students may continue with the lecture sequence, but will not be permitted to begin formal clinical experiences until accepted into the program.

Once a student is provisionally admitted to the program, the following documentation must be provided prior to the initial observation clinical rotation:

  1. Undergo annual Blood Borne Pathogen training;
  2. Student must be enrolled in ATTR 220 and 305.

Please note that due to the competitive nature of the program, provisional acceptance does not guarantee final full acceptance to the program. Additionally, Provisionally-accepted students must meet the Program Retention Standards in order to remain in the program.
