Global Focus Week (GFW) is a semi-annual event aimed at raising global awareness among Liberty University students, faculty, and staff. Throughout GFW students will have the opportunity to hear from globally influential Convocation guests, connect with global workers, experience a variety of cultures, and participate in interactive events.

What to Expect: Come and experience a piece of the Rwandan culture, through the stories and songs of Rwandese Nationals!

Convocation 

Where: Vines Center

When: 10:30-11:45 a.m.

What to Expect: Come experience Convocation as we kick off Global Focus Week and Liberty's G5 Initiative!

 

 

 

 

 

Cultural Exposure Rwanda

Where: Montview Argo Tea

When: 4:30-5:15 p.m.

What to Expect: With a taste of the native food and dance, you will not want to miss getting a glimpse into the culture of the African country of Rwanda!

 

 

 

 

 

Cultural Shape Rwanda

Where: Montview Argo Tea

When: 5:00-6:15 p.m.

What to Expect: In a Q & A discussion hear firsthand how one Rwandan man is using his God-given artistic abilities to tell his story and the story of his country. Also, hear how Rwandan Liberty students are shaping culture through their passions and how you can shape culture too. 

 

 

 

 

Experience Postmodernism

Where: Montview Center for Multi-Cultural Enrichment: Event Space

When: 5:30-6:45 p.m.

What to Expect: Come take part in an immersive event as Mike Taylor (UK-USA Ministries) takes you into the postmodern mind and explains how we can explain the love and grace of an absolute God with those who understand truth to be relative.

 

 


Tuesday, September 26

Soccer Skills Challenge

Where: Montview Student Lawn

When: 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

What to Expect: Come and experience the global game of soccer!  Meet the LU Women’s Team who will be facilitating this interactive 'skills challenge' for students on the Montview Lawn.  Participants will receive a Vuvuzela, while supplies last.

 

 

 

 

Experience the Eastern Mind

Where: Montview Center for Multi-Cultural Enrichment: Event Space

When: 3:15-4:30 p.m.

What to Expect: Come hear from Dr. Chris Gnanakan (LU Global Studies Professor) as he explains the similarities and differences of Hinduism and Buddhism and gives you the chance to experience some of the culinary, visual, and audible senses of both cultures.

 

 

 

 

Experience Folk Islam

Where: Montview Center for Multi-Cultural Enrichment: Event Space

When: 5:30-6:45 p.m.

What to Expect: Come hear from African native Tony Weedor (Advancing Native Missions) as you experience some of the foods, sights, and sounds of Sub-Saharan Africa while broadening your understanding of folk Islam.

 

 

 

 

 

Facing Darkness Movie and Q&A

Where: Science 128

When: 7:00-9:30 p.m.

What to Expect: In partnership with Samaritan’s Purse, come experience an interactive Q & A panel discussion about the story of the heroes of the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the fight against uncontrollable disease outbreaks around the world. Hear from experts in their respective fields who bring insight into the event and the making of the film. Stay after for a viewing of the film Facing Darkness.
