American Sign Language (ASL)

Course Description

Engage in conversation with the deaf. Learn greetings, common expressions and phrases that will open communication with the deaf community. Practice signing during every class. Great for family, friends, and teachers.

Complete this seven-week, non-credit course and earn a 1.0 CEU certificate (Continuing Education Unit) from Liberty University.

Open to all, including the general public. Available on campus only.


Instructor - Beckley Long

Beckley Long was born and raised in Roanoke, Va. She became deaf at the age of six months due to a stress infection in both ears.

Beckley graduated from Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton, Va. where she met her husband who is hard of hearing. They have two hearing children ages nine and seven and the family attends Living Word Deaf Church.

Formerly a veterinary assistant for seven years, Beckley enjoys animals and teaching sign language to her hearing friends at work.
