Liberty University Online Military Benefits 

Liberty University recognizes the service and sacrifice of those who have answered the call of duty to defend our nation's freedoms. Because of this, we are privileged to offer tuition discounts and military book vouchers to those who are eligible to help our military students achieve their academic and professional goals.

In addition to these financial benefits, we also offer academic benefits, military support services, and connection to our military community through social media, monthly newsletters, and military appreciation events. To take advantage of all of these benefits, we encourage you to submit military documentation through the steps outlined below to ensure your military status is reflected on your student account.

How To Secure Your Benefits:

Step 1

Determine Your Eligibility

Use the information below to help you determine your eligibility for the Liberty military benefits, including the tuition discount and the military book voucher. If you have any questions, you may contact a military benefits counselor at (855) 355-4947,, or through Chat LIVE.

Who Qualifies?

  • Active Duty
  • Reserve/National Guard
  • Veterans/Retirees
  • Spouses of Service Members and Veterans/Retirees
  • Current Department of Defense Employees

Eligibility Requirements:

  • All current service members of the U.S. Armed Forces qualify after basic training is completed (as defined in 10 U.S.C. § 101(a)(4)). State Guard does not qualify. 
  • In addition, current Department of Defense employees, Veterans (with honorable/general discharge), and military spouses currently qualify. A military spouse is defined by Liberty University as a husband or wife currently in a state-sanctioned marriage to a current service member or veteran, both of whom are natural-born members of the opposite sex. 
  • The aforementioned must be pursuing a Certificate, Associates, Bachelors, or Masters level program. Additionally, Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) students may qualify. Benefits only apply to Liberty University Online military students. Students enrolled in a Residential program or the Willmington School of the Bible do not qualify.

Please note: If you apply to a new program, change degree levels, or break enrollment, you will be required to resubmit documentation that meet the current eligibility requirements.

If your discharge does not meet the criteria for our military benefits and you feel your situation warrants a special review by our office, please provide a written explanation of your circumstances (including the DD-214 with character of service listed, supporting documentation, and a brief essay) to be reviewed by the Office of Military Affairs for consideration. You may email your request with documentation attached to The Office of Military Affairs reserves the right to deny or approve appeals based on a comprehensive review of all documentation submitted.

Step 2

Gather Your Documentation

All students are required to submit documentation verifying their military status and to determine their eligibility for the Liberty-given military benefits.

  • Service Members & Veterans can submit a Tuition Assistance form or GoArmyEd registration to verify their military status, the most recently issued Member-4 DD-214, an End of Month LES from the last 3 months, or the most recent orders issued within the last year. If needed, a copy of a DD-214 can be requested from the National Archives website. Only one of these documents is required.
  • Military Spouses should submit a copy of your Marriage Certificate or License, one of your spouse's military documents, and copies of the state-issued active Driver's License* for both you and your spouse.
  • DoD Employees should submit a DoD End of Month LES from the last 3 months, official memo/letter stating current employment with DoD agency, or Notification of Personnel Action (SF50).

Step 3

Submit Your Documentation

Submit your documents to the Office of Military Affairs by fax: (434) 455-1287 or email: This documentation will be reviewed within 2 business days. We will follow up regarding your benefits eligibility through your Liberty email account at that time.

Benefits are only awarded once acceptable documentation is received and reviewed by the Office of Military Affairs. Benefits are not awarded retroactively so please be sure to submit your documentation before your first semester begins!

*A state-issued active Driver's License serves as valid photo identification, which is required for consideration of Liberty's military benefits. Acceptable forms of photo identification must include name, date of birth, gender, and a photo. If you are unable to submit a Driver's License, we may also accept a Passport or DMV identification card. Military ID's are not accepted due to government regulations.

Evaluation of Military Training for College Credit

Undergraduate, military students only

Liberty offers a free evaluation of military training and experience for college credit. All credit granted for military training is given based on the American Council on Education (ACE) guide recommendations.
