Military Tuition Assistance (TA) Reinstated

Branch Specific Updates:

Navy:

  • The Navy did not suspend Tuition Assistance and is still accepting applications. The Navy said they will approve authorized TA within two weeks of the start date of the course.

Army:

  • The Army has reinstated Tuition Assistance through the GoArmyEd portal effective April 10. Army TA will be reinstated as it was before the suspension ($250 semester hour cap and $4,500 fiscal year cap). Any courses that started before April 10 cannot be re-opened in GoArmyEd. For Liberty University, this means that only TA for summer courses can be requested.

Air Force:

  • The Air Force has reinstated Tuition Assistance effective April 10. Air Force TA will be reinstated as it was before the suspension ($250 semester hour cap and $4,500 fiscal year cap). TA can only be approved for courses starting after April 10. TA for summer courses can be requested.

Marine Corps:

  • The Marine Corps reinstated Tuition Assistance as of April 12. For now, the Marine Corps will continue approving Tuition Assistance up to the $250 semester hour and $4,500 fiscal year cap. As with all the branches, TA may be reduced or the policies may change in the new fiscal year (October 1). TA for summer courses can now be requested.

Coast Guard:

  • The Coast Guard has reinstated Tuition Assistance officially as of April 23. The Coast Guard did revise their eligibility requirements for TA. The new requirements only allow those who are on active duty, who are the pay grade of E6 or below and who are pursuing undergraduate courses. Reservist members on extended active duty may also qualify. For those who are still eligible, the normal semester cap of $250 semester hour and fiscal year cap of $4,500 are restored.

Reinstatement of Tuition Assistance:

The President has now signed H.R. 933, with an amendment to reinstate TA. We expect to hear from each branch of service in the near future with the details to reinstate TA for the remainder of the Military fiscal year (through Sept. 30).

Alternative Funding while Tuition Assistance is Suspended:

  • GI Bill / Veterans Benefits

Most students will qualify for one or more of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefit chapters, such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill. These benefits can be used both during your service and after being discharged from the military. Information and guides can be found on our Veterans Benefits page.   • Military Scholarships

Students may be eligible to receive military scholarships offered by Liberty University or external organizations.

  • Financial Aid

Students may apply for Financial Aid (grants/loans). Military students must complete the FAFSA and follow the standard Financial Aid process to determine their eligibility.

  • Virginia Resident Aid
  • State Tuition Assistance:

  • Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG):

Residents of over one year in Virginia may apply for this grant. See the Financial Aid VTAG page for more information.

  • Payment Plans
