The NIFA Flight Team

The 2012/13 Flight Team

The Liberty University's School of Aeronautics is a member of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) and since 2002 our flight team has taken part in annual competitions, both regional and national. The team has won their regional competition (Region X) for the last nine years and they most recently placed 5th at this years 2014 National SAFECON Competition hosted by Ohio State University.                                                     

The team currently use two new Cessna 172 aircraft and a Cessna 150 for the flight events. This years regional competition was also hosted by Liberty University at Franklin County Municipal Airport, VA.

Kyle Dillon & Matt Sylvester

Team Coaches

This years NIFA Team coaches are Kyle Dillon and Matt Sylvester. They have been working extremely hard to maintain the high standard of airmanship that we have displayed over the last number of years at the competition. They will be leading the team for each of the flight and ground events at the upcoming regional competition.


Flight Team Advisor

Mr. John Marselus is the Associate Dean of Flight Operations for the School of Aeronautics. He is also the NIFA Flight Team Advisor and he will be accompanying the team to the competitions to provide support for all the Flight and Ground events. This year he will be the NIFA Safety Officer for the regional competition and it is his responsibility for overseeing of any mishap or crisis response.
