CLEP Tests

Testing Services is an official computer-based testing site for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Passing a CLEP test for a specific course allows the student to receive college credit for this course.

Students need to allow about two hours to take a CLEP Test.  Since CLEP tests are taken on a computer, advanced registration is recommended to ensure a computer is available at the time desired.

Due to varying class times and the need to travel between Green Hall and Main Campus, Testing Services can be flexible with testing times if needed between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

CLEP Testing Times During the Academic Year:

Monday - Friday

  • 8:15 a.m.
  • 11:30 a.m.
  • 1:45 p.m.

CLEP Testing Times During the Summer:

  • 9:30 a.m.
  • 1:45 p.m.
  • Morning time can begin earlier if needed.

There is a $50 registration fee (paid at time of registration by check, cash or card), and there is a $80 test administration fee (paid at the time of testing by card only).

DSST -
DANTES Subject Standardized Tests

The DSST program, formerly known as DANTES, is a credit-by-examination testing program provided by Thompson Prometric. It is a series of 37 examinations of college-level academic, technical, and business subjects.

Colleges and corporations use DSSTs (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) to measure knowledge in a particular subject area. Based on the achievement of a passing examination score, candidates can receive college credit or continuing education credit.

DSST testing is offered at national test centers offering the Internet-based (iBT) DSSTs. Non-traditional returning adult students, corporate trainees, and military members now use DSSTs on a regular basis.

The DSST exam fee, payable online the day of the test, is currently $80 on a card.

The test administration fee for DSST exams taken at Liberty University is $50 check, cash or card.

Exams from Other Institutions

Testing Services can serve as a proctor for candidate taking tests from other institutions, including Liberty Home Bible Institute.  Generally, Testing Services is contacted by phone, email, or in person by the candidate. The candidate is told that there is a $25 proctoring fee per test, payable by check, cash or card.

The Supervisor of Testing Services discusses the following:

  1. test information - course, paper test, online test, deadline, etc
  2. information regarding how the test will be sent
  3. contact information regarding the institution and the candidate, exchanging information, filling out  any forms if available at that point
ICE, Institutional Challenge Exams

The Institutional Challenge Exam (ICE) are exams specific to courses at Liberty University.  If the exam is passed, students are able to receive credit for the course.

ICE exams are only available for accepted Liberty students who have a class schedule.

There is a $50 registration fee (paid at time of registration), and there is a $80 test administration fee (paid at the time of testing).  Payment can be made by check, cash or card.

Make-Up Tests
Testing Services (inside the Bruckner Learning Center) is the site for faculty to use for students who have a legitimate reason for being absent for a scheduled exam. Students with registered documented disabilities (ODAS) can take their exams in Testing Services.
