Fully Supported: Microsoft Forefront is provided to all students for network protection and is also required for network access. The HelpDesk will troubleshoot any issues with Forefront as well as offer full support. This means we will troubleshoot it, help configure it, and even go so far as helping install/re-install it should the need arise.
McAfee AntiSpyware 8.5
Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff
Allowed but not supported: McAfee AntiSpyware is allowed through Aruba ECS for students to access the network, but Microsoft Forefront is the only fully supported antivirus program. The HelpDesk will attempt to update McAfee AntiSpyware 8.5 to satisfy the requirements of Aruba ECS, but if an immediate solution is not available, the software will be uninstalled and Microsoft Forefront will be installed.
McAfee Enterprise
Allowed but not supported: McAfee Enterprise is allowed through Aruba ECS for students to access the network, but Microsoft Forefront is the only fully supported antivirus program. Norton Antivirus
Allowed but not supported: Norton Antivirus is allowed through Aruba ECS for students to access the network, but Microsoft Forefront is the only fully supported antivirus program. Symantec Corporate Editions
Allowed but not supported: Symantec Corporate Antivirus is allowed through Aruba ECS for students to access the network, but Microsoft Forefront is the only fully supported antivirus program. The HelpDesk will attempt to update Symantec Corporate Antivirus to satisfy the requirements of Aruba ECS, but if an immediate solution is not available, the software will be uninstalled and Microsoft Forefront will be installed. Not Supported: For students that are still using IE5, the HelpDesk recommends an upgrade to at least IE6. We will not troubleshoot problems with IE5, but instead aide the student in moving to the more secure IE6 or IE7.

Fully Supported: Internet Explorer 8 is now being issued by Microsoft as an automatic update. As such HelpDesk offers support configuring, troubleshooting, installing, and uninstalling IE8. Not Supported: Office 2000 offers limited functionality in connecting to our Microsoft Exchange Servers. Therefore, we recommend that students upgrade their computer to Office 2007 since it is offered for a discounted price through the IT Marketplace and the Microsoft Campus License Agreement. Upgrading to a new version will also improve the user's overall experience in most cases.
Office 2003
Partially Supported: Microsoft Office is the standard application suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Access) used in classes at Liberty. It is also offered through the IT Marketplace and the Microsoft Campus License Agreement. We provide full support including troubleshooting and installing. We also set up and configure Outlook to connect students to their LU Exchange account. Office 2003 is NOT supported on computers owned and managed by Liberty University .

Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff personal computers

Operating SystemsWindows 2000
Not Supported: We offer no support for Windows 2000. Microsoft has moved Windows 2000 from mainstream support to extended support. During the Extended Support phase, Microsoft continues to provide security hot fixes and paid support but no longer provides complimentary support options, design change requests, and non-security hot fixes. Microsoft Extended Support for Windows 2000 began on June 30, 2005 and will continue for 5 years thru June 2010. We recommend that anyone running this operating system upgrade to a newer version of Windows. Several current versions of Windows are offered for a discounted price through our campus license agreement on the IT Marketplace.
Windows XP Home

Windows 7Supported for: Liberty University Students
Fully Supported: We offer full support for students who have the full release versions of the operating system. This includes troubleshooting and configuring as well as installing/re-installing, should the need arise. However, beta versions of Windows 7 will not be supported. Windows 7 is available in the IT Marketplace.
Windows (All Other Versions)
Supported for: Liberty University Students
Not Supported: We offer no support for Windows ME, 98, and 95. Microsoft discontinued support and incompatibility with the network applications used at Liberty does not allow us to support these operating systems. We recommend that anyone running this operating system upgrade to Windows XP or Windows Vista (if their hardware supports it) since it is offered for a discounted price through our campus license agreement on the IT Marketplace.
Other SoftwareBlackBoard
Fully Supported: Blackboard is fully supported for both faculty and students. We troubleshoot internet browser compatibility issues and help students/faculty get logged in. Because having access to Blackboard is considered essential for LU classes, we will do whatever is necessary to resolve student's Blackboard issues, whether it be a problem with their account, or their own computer's browser configuration.
Bradford
Supported for: Liberty University Students/Staff/Student
Fully Supported: Bradford is required for network access. We will troubleshoot any issues which may come up as well as provide the latest version for students. We will install/re-install the program should the need arise.
Cisco Unity Messaging
Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff, Liberty Chrsitian Academy, all other business units and guests
Fully Supported: We fully support Cisco Unity issues for all faculty and staff that use this service. We will troubleshoot issues with it and help faculty and staff resolve any problems that they may have.
E-mail XTender
Supported for: Liberty University Faculty/Staff
Fully Supported: We fully support E-mail Xtender for all users at the school who have been given access to use it. Right now, this is limited to a pilot group; however we will fully support it for whatever groups use it as it is deployed.
Gaming Systems and PC Games
Supported for: All Approved Users
Partially Supported: Gaming isn't a priority as we are a learning facility. We ensure that students are provided with necessary internet access. From there, only the most basic troubleshooting is offered. For example, we will provide suggestions on things to try but we won't sit down in front of the student's computer or system and troubleshoot the game itself. We help students get their machines online; this includes clearing them through the Aruba ECS server and other basic internet troubleshooting.
LibertyNet Dialup
Supported for: Liberty University Students
Fully Supported: HelpDesk will troubleshoot and install connections if necessary in order to allow the student to access Liberty's dial-up. We offer full support for Liberty's dial-up and will provide any assistance necessary for configuration.
Microsoft Communicator
Supported for: All Business Units
Fully Supported: We will fully support Microsoft Communicator. We will troubleshoot and assist with connectivity problems for all users of Communicator.
Outlook Express (and Vista's "Mail")
Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff
Not Supported: Outlook Express does not support Microsoft exchange, which is required for email clients to work with Liberty's mail. HelpDesk will only provide assistance removing Outlook Express or installing Outlook 2003 or 2007.
Personal Data Support
Partially Supported: HelpDesk will make every effort to preserve the students data in the circumstance that we must reformat the student's computer. We have servers which we use to back up as much of the student's data as possible. Unfortunately, we cannot backup the student's programs due to license agreements. HelpDesk does not offer unlimited space for backup, nor does it allow the use of our servers for any purpose other than for its employees to backup data long enough to put it back on the computer. HelpDesk will not be held liable for lost data.
Webmail
Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff
Fully Supported: We offer full support for Webmail/e-mail related issues. A student normally encounters two types of problems with Webmail: problems with the e-mail account or configuration issues on the computer used to access webmail. In either case, we will help the student resolve the issue.
Windows Update (XP & Vista)Supported for: Liberty University Students/Faculty/Staff
Fully Supported: Information Services fully supports Microsoft's Windows Update. Aruba ECS requires that automatic updates be turned on, and that all current security-related hot fixes be installed before it will allow students to access the Internet. If any trouble should arise due to Microsoft's Windows Update, Information Services will troubleshoot and provide any help necessary.
