Seniors enjoy picnic at Falwell Farm

May 5, 2009 : Dominique McKay

Liberty University’s second annual Senior Picnic kicked off on Saturday at the Bedford County farm of Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. and his wife, Becki.

About 1,000 seniors attended. They enjoyed a variety of activities on the lake, including swimming, wave running and fishing, and toured the Falwell home. In addition to a catered dinner, there were free hot-air balloon rides and sporting events, including volleyball, badminton and Frisbee.

“With my last few days at Liberty coming to a close, it was good to catch up with old friends and see familiar faces one last time before graduation,” said senior Tim Talley. “The music, food and activities were awesome, and I hope the Falwells continue to host the Senior Picnic for years to come.”

Liberty’s Student Activities office hosted several games, including hula and balloon tossing competitions with gift-card prizes. Students were also entered into an iPod raffle, and free senior T-shirts were given to the first 500 guests.

Students also had an opportunity to participate in Liberty’s “What’s Your Story?” campaign. Sitting on a blue couch on the porch overlooking the lake, they shared their testimonies of what it means to be a Champion for Christ and how Liberty has impacted their lives. Their stories were filmed and will be considered for Liberty video projects and promotional materials. The picnic ended with an evening bonfire.
