For more than 15 years, Dr. Ronald Godwin has served Liberty University, working directly for the Chancellor via many of the university's affiliated ministries. Most recently he has served as Liberty's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. On July 1, he was officially named Vice Chancellor.
“Ron is a seasoned veteran in Christian education administration and has a brilliant business mind,” said Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. “He also has a deep understanding of Liberty University's history and culture that is invaluable to me.”
Falwell said the change to Godwin's title comes as a result of reorganizing Liberty's administration so all departments will report to the Chancellor's Office through various vice presidents.
“Previously, some departments reported to Dr. Godwin and some to me. The structure was not as conducive to good communication between the various departments of the university as it could have been,” he said. “The new organizational structure will help all the departments to work more closely together.”
Godwin said he is comfortable with the new organizational structure.
“It allows me to serve this Chancellor exactly as I served his father for so many years,” he said. “Like Vice President Dick Cheney, I aspire to no other role than to serve our President as and where he assigns me.”
In his administrative career, Godwin has held a variety of leadership positions, including two presidencies of private Christian colleges, Executive Vice President of the Washington Times, Executive Vice President of the Moral Majority, President of Jerry Falwell Ministries, President of Liberty Broadcast Network, President of Liberty University Foundation and Dean of the Helms School of Government and Senior Administrator of Residential Recruiting at Liberty.
Godwin received his B.A. from Bob Jones University, his M.S. from Old Dominion University, and his Ph.D. in Post-Secondary Planning and Management from Florida State University.
