August 11, 2011 : Liberty University News Service

Liberty University has received one of its largest estate gifts in recent years.

Evelyn Gerling of Wyncote, Pa., left Liberty $731,250 in her will. Gerling passed away on May 29, 2010 at the age of 91.

According to her obituary, Gerling had worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an executive secretary to the director of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Region. Her greatest joy “was participating and serving in churches where Jesus Christ was exalted.”

"Liberty deeply appreciates the commitment of Evelyn Gerling to our mission of training champions for Christ," said Liberty's Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell Jr. "Liberty University was built with the assistance of donors like Miss Gerling who sacrificed to make Christian education possible for thousands of young people."

The gift was not designated for any certain use.

This is the sixth largest bequest Liberty has received since 2005.
