On Saturday, Liberty University will surpass 10,000 graduates in one year for the first time.

At Commencement 2011, which begins at 10 a.m. at Arthur L. Williams Stadium, Liberty will honor its 10,930 graduates in front of an estimated crowd of 30,000.

The number of graduates breaks last year’s record of 8,650.

These will be the first graduation exercises to take place at the newly renovated stadium.

“I don’t know how we could have accommodated the crowd if the stadium had not been expanded to 19,200 seats over the last year.  Even with the additional seats, the stadium should be packed,” said Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr.

Of this year’s graduates, 78 percent are receiving degrees from Liberty University Online and 22 percent from the residential program.

On Saturday, 5,180 have planned to walk in the ceremony.
