Liberty University’s Student Alumni Association (SAA) gave students a chance to take a break during exam week Tuesday at its inaugural Christmas Rhythm party from 7-10 p.m. at the Tilley Student Center.

The entire Liberty University community received an early Christmas present this week when the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) accepted the university’s monitoring report addressing ongoing concerns with respect to the accreditation standard involving the identification of college-level competencies and the extent to which graduates have attained them.

Christian recording artist Jeremy Camp is returning to Liberty University for Winterfest 2008 — and as his recently released album states, he is “Speaking Louder Than Before.” Camp will take the stage on New Year’s Eve along with Sanctus Real and Stellar Kart just before the start of 2009.

As Christmas quickly approaches, students are receiving a special gift during finals week from Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki. Free bags of kettle corn are being distributed this week outside the Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center.

Anticipation continues to build as crews are diligently grading atop Liberty University's mountain property in preparation for the new year-round ski slope. Slated to open in March, the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center will be the first artificial incline in the U.S. composed of Snowflex, a multi-layer synthetic material designed to simulate real snow.

Jonathan Falwell, senior pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church and vice president for spiritual affairs at Liberty University, spoke at Wednesday’s convocation on how to obtain greatness. In order to achieve greatness, he said, students must understand what greatness is not.

A few familiar faces are returning to Liberty University’s Vines Center for Winterfest 2008, Dec. 30-Jan. 1. The ever-popular punk rock sensation Hawk Nelson will take the stage along with Sanctus Real and Skillet, helping to ring in the New Year during the festival’s first night session.

On a spiritual gifts test, Dave Young’s highest scores are for primary leadership, administration and faith. “I guess I am a builder by nature. I like to build programs,” he said. As Dean of Liberty University’s newly formed School of Aeronautics, that’s exactly what Young is doing. He’s piloting a revamped aviation program that has grown from four students to more than 200 in the past few years.
