Steel beams were put into place this week for the framework of Liberty University’s new Barnes & Noble campus bookstore, located on Main Campus across from the entrance to Williams Stadium. Groundwork on the 20,000 square-foot facility started in May. It will nearly double the size of the current bookstore in Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center.

Crews broke ground on Monday, clearing out an area on Campus North for Liberty’s future indoor soccer complex. The 37,000-square-foot building will be adjacent to the LaHaye Student Union and serve as a multifunctional facility for activities such as flag football and lacrosse. Expected completion for this project is February 2009.

These days, Liberty University’s dining facilities are known for more than their nutritious food selections. Recently, LU’s Reber-Thomas Dining Hall and Founder’s Food Court received kudos for their architectural design.

Students who enjoy music and fellowship in a coffeehouse-style setting now have a new hangout spot on Campus North, with the opening of Liberty’s Tilley Student Center. The center is located next to the recently renamed LaHaye Student Union, which encompasses the new student center and campus recreational facilities.

Faculty, staff, students and distinguished guests gathered Friday at Liberty University’s main religion building for the dedication of the new Towns-Alumni Lecture Hall. The new 750-seat lecture hall, named in honor of Liberty co-founder Dr. Elmer Towns, features sloped floors, cushioned chairs and state-of-the-art lighting and acoustics.

Liberty University purchased 7 acres from Norfolk Southern in August. The property runs alongside Regents Parkway, the new perimeter road on campus. It starts at Mile Marker 178 and heads south along the railroad about half a mile.

Crews are currently clearing an area of land located behind Campus North in preparation of Liberty’s upcoming tennis center. Once the bulk grading is completed, construction will begin on a new 12-court complex, accommodating the university’s NCAA Division I men’s and women’s tennis teams.
