About ILLiad

What it ILLiad?

  • ILLiad is the interlibrary loan management system used to allow all current students, faculty, and staff to:
    • submit requests for unavailable materials from the Library
    • track their progress
    • request renewals
    • retrieve electronic documents
    • view your request history
  • It also allows our Interlibrary Loan Staff to order and track requests for all our users (residential and distance learning).

How does ILLiad benefit me?

  • You enter your name, address, and other personal information into the system only once, at the time of your first request, making it easier to make requests.
  • You can get information about the status of your request (shipped, in process, due) through the ILLiad at any time from any location.
  • Library personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database. We are able to respond quickly to your inquiries about your request.

Am I required to use ILLiad?

  • Yes, in order to take advantage of this service.
  • All Liberty University Online students must create an ILLiad account to request materials from our collections.

Is EZproxy login required to use ILLiad?

  • No. But you must login into ILLiad even if you are logged into EZproxy.
  • You may reach ILLiad from one of our online databases through the "Get It @ Liberty" service. If you login into ILLiad at that point it will automatically complete the proper loan request form for you.

Registration

How do I register?

Do I use my Liberty username and password?

  • Your username can be anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code. Your password also can be anything you like. No one but you will know your password, not even the library staff.

Do I have to use my Liberty email address?

  • Yes. ILLiad account registration will only work with your Liberty email address. The account registration will reject/disavow any non-Liberty email account entered.

My Account

What should I do if I forget my username or password?

  • If you forget your password, contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 434-582-2442 or at illoan@liberty.edu. While the staff of the Interlibrary Loan office does not have access to your password, they can reset it for you.
  • You should then change your password when you log in to ILLiad.

How do I change my password?

  • Click on Change Password under Tools on the left-side menu after you login.

How do I update my contact info?

  • Click on Change User Information under Tools on the left-side menu. Make any necessary changes and click Submit Information.

Why did ILLiad block my account?

  • ILLiad automatically blocks your account if you have any overdue Interlibrary Loan items. You will not be able to order anything until you return your overdue item(s).
  • You repeatedly return overdue or damaged items.
  • The Library reserves the right to block or suspend ILL privileges for any user.

Submitting Requests

How does ILLiad work with the library’s electronic databases?

  • “GetIt@Liberty” links or icons will replace all interlibrary loan links (except in WorldCat).
  • Clicking that link will either take you a screen where you may choose to access the item in another library database or connect your ILLiad account. When you access ILLiad, login and choose the appropriate request form. ILLiad automatically populates the form with the item’s information.

How do I cancel a request?

  • Click on Outstanding Requests under View on the left-side menu.
  • Click on the Transaction Number of the request you wish to cancel.
  • Click the Cancel Request link at the top of the page.

Requesting Renewals

How do I request a renewal for my Interlibrary Loan?

  • Click on Checked Out Items under the View on the left-side menu.
  • Click on the Transaction Number of the request you wish to renew.
  • Click the Renew Request link at the top of the page.
  • PLEASE NOTE THE BOOK IS NOT YET RENEWED. You have only requested a renewal. Our staff will contact the lending library and request they extend the loan. We will contact you regarding the status of the request.

Technical Concerns

Is security a problem from a public workstation?

  • Yes, it can be a problem. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation.
  • If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, you can take the following steps:
  1. Access the ILLiad system only from your personal computer.
  2. Click the Logoff link in the upper right corner of the screen when you are finished using ILLiad.
  3. Clear the browser history to delete those pages that contain your personal information.
  4. Exit from the Web browser before you leave the workstation.

Why does my browser say that you are sending a cookie?

  • The technology that we use sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use ILLiad without any problems.
