ILLiad FAQ

ABOUT

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the interlibrary loan management system used by the A. Pierre Guillermin Library. This system allows you to:

  • submit requests
  • track their progress
  • request renewals
  • retrieve electronic documents
  • view your request history

It allows our Interlibrary Loan Staff to order and track requests for all our users (residential and distance learning).

Who can use ILLiad?

ILLiad is available for all current Liberty University faculty, students, and staff.

How does ILLiad benefit me?

  • You will find it easier to submit your interlibrary loan requests. With ILLiad, you enter your name, address, and other personal information into the system only once, at the time of your first request.
  • ILLiad handles your online request rapidly and accurately, eliminating problems related to misinterpretation of hand-written requests.
  • ILLiad maintains a list of what you ordered, saving time submitting unnecessary duplicate requests.
  • You can get information about the status of your request (shipped, in process, due) through the ILLiad at any time from any location without having to call the ILL Department.
  • You can save time by requesting renewals on your interlibrary loans through your ILLiad account.
  • Library personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database. We are able to respond quickly to your inquiries about your request. We are also able to gather statistical information about the performance of the libraries that lend to us, enabling us to make better decisions when choosing a lender to supply an item.

Am I required to use ILLiad?

  • Yes, in order to take advantage of this service.
  • All residential students, faculty, and staff requesting interlibrary loans must create an ILLiad account and use that account to make interlibrary loan requests.
  • All distance learning (DLP) students must create an ILLiad account to request materials from our collections.

Is EZproxy login required to use ILLiad?

  • No. But you must login into ILLiad even if you are logged into EZproxy.
  • You may reach ILLiad from one of our online databases through the "Get It @ LU" service. If you login into ILLiad at that point it will automatically complete the proper loan request form for you.

REGISTRATION

How do I register?

Simply complete your user profile at http://liberty.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/FirstTime.html

Do I use my Liberty username and password?

We recommend using a different password to provide better security. Your username and password allows us to give you secure access to information about your interlibrary loan requests. We can also enable you to edit your personal information such as your address or phone number.

Your username can be anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code. Your password also can be anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems. However, no one but you will know your password, not even the library staff. The password you set is stored in an encrypted file.

Remember to save your account username and password to avoid possible delays with your Interlibrary Loan service.

Do I have to use my Liberty email address?

Yes. ILLiad account registration will only work with your Liberty email address. Your account registration will rejected (disavowed) if any non-Liberty email account is entered in the email field.

MY ACCOUNT

What should I do if I forget my username or password?

  • If you forget your password, contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 434-582-2442 or at illoan@liberty.edu. While the staff of the Interlibrary Loan office does not have access to your password, they can reset it for you.
  • You should then change your password when you log in to ILLiad.

How do I change my password?

  • If you know your password, and just want to change it, you can do so on the Change Password under Tools on the left-side menu after you login.
  • If you forget your password, contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 434-582-2442 or at illoan@liberty.edu

How do I update my contact info?

  • Click on Change User Information under Tools on the left-side menu. Make any necessary changes and click Submit Information.

Why did ILLiad disavow or reject my registration?

  • You did not provide a Liberty email address.
  • You provided incomplete or conflicting address information.
  • You are not a current Liberty University student, faculty, or staff member.

Why did ILLiad block my account?

  • ILLiad automatically blocks your account if you have any overdue Interlibrary Loan items. You will not be able to order anything until you return your overdue item(s).
  • You repeatedly return overdue or damaged items.
  • The Library reserves the right to block or suspend ILL privileges for any user.

SUBMITTING REQUESTS

Do you still accept requests by email or paper form?

  • No. The Library will only process requests received through ILLiad.
  • Paper requests and personal emails will not be accepted from any user.

How does ILLiad work with the library’s electronic databases?

  • GetIt@LU” links or icons will replace all interlibrary loan links (except in WorldCat).
  • Clicking that link will either take you a screen where you may choose to access the item in another library database or connect your ILLiad account. When you access ILLiad, login and choose the appropriate request form. ILLiad automatically populates the form with the item’s information.

How do I cancel a request?

  • Click on Outstanding Requests under View on the left-side menu.
  • Click on the Transaction Number of the request you wish to cancel.
  • Click the Cancel Request link at the top of the page.

TECHNICAL CONCERNS

Is security a problem from a public workstation?

Yes, it can be a problem. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of the workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's Back button to recall a page from the cache, or by finding a page with your personal information in the browser's history file.

If you are concerned about the security of your interlibrary loan requests, you can take the following steps:

  • Access the ILLiad system only from your personal computer.
  • When using a public workstation (including those in the ILRC): Click the Logoff link in the upper right corner of the screen when you are finished using ILLiad.
  • Edit the history file to delete those pages that contain your personal information.
  • Exit from the Web browser before you leave the workstation. This prevents the Back button from accessing the pages you were using.
Why does my browser say that you are sending a cookie?

The technology that we use sends a Session ID to be stored on your machine. You can refuse this cookie and still be able to use ILLiad without any problems.
