    Note:  For Ed.D. in Leadership, must add EDUC 721 and 771 (included for Ed.D. in C&I)

    Initial Licensure additional courses required:
     Elementary: EDUC 530, 531, 554, 556, 6231, 6321, student teaching, content competencies, VCLA, VRE, Praxis II
     Special education: EDUC 524, 525, 530, 554, 6221, 6231, student teaching, and VCLA, RVE
     Secondary: EDUC 535, 539, 556, 6231, 6731, student teaching, content competencies, and VCLA, Praxis II

    Add-on Licensure additional courses required:
     Early childhood (for 3- and 4-year-olds): EDUC 501, 653, 670, must have elementary license
     Gifted: EDUC 526, 620, 621, 627, must have initial license

    Advanced Licensure additional courses required:
     School counseling: EDUC 6221, EDUC or EDCE 660, EDUC or EDCE 6611, EDUC or EDCE 699-A02 and 21 hours of COUN or EDCE courses equivalent to M.Ed. courses
     Reading or Math specialist: EDUC 6221, 6411, 650, 652, 699-A03, must have initial license, 3 years experience

Requirements:

  • EDUC 715 prerequisite (EDUC 518 or graduate educational research course)
  • Required intensives
     - EDUC 741
     - EDUC 919 (prerequisites: EDUC 715 and 817) to be taken near the END of the program
    Choose ONE:
     - EDUC 730 (for Teaching & Learning concentration)
     - EDUC 747 (for Educational Leadership concentration)
  • EDUC 970 Comprehensive Exam
  • EDUC 980 Dissertation Seminar (required EVERY semester after EDUC 970 until EDUC 990
    (minimum 6 semester hours)
  • EDUC 990 Dissertation (defense)
  • Note: EDUC 798 may not be used as an elective in the EdD.  EDUC 798 was written to be a capstone course for those who are completing their EdS
