Requirements:

  • Intensives: EDUC 504, 622, 623
  • Field experiences and student teaching
  • Licensure tests by Gate 3 [passing scores PRIOR to student teaching]
    • VCLA (Writing=235; Reading=235; Composite=470)
    • Praxis II 5543: Special Education:  Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications
      (required in 15 states and for Liberty's program approval by CEC, although not required by VDOE) 
    • Praxis II: RVE (Elem/Sped) =157 (7/2011 and after)
      or VRA001=235  (prior to 7/2011)
      Educ 554 required BEFORE taking the RVE.  RVE now available out-of-state (Instructions).

DUALForms:

NOTE: Adding a content endorsement (elementary and/or secondary) is STRONGLY recommended.  A content endorsement is required in some states for special education license or to be “highly qualified.”

Must take courses listed below, meet content competencies, and pass Praxis II
       Elementary Education Additional courses for dual endorsement: EDUC 531, 556, 632, 599
     *Secondary Education Additional courses for dual endorsement: EDUC 535, 673, 695, 599

* VDOE: An individual who holds a teaching license may add an additional endorsement to the license by passing Praxis II. This testing option does not apply to individuals who are seeking an elementary education endorsement.
