Your refund will be processed within the Federal Standard of 14 days from the time the credit appears on your account.
The credit from a loan or scholarship can appear on each student's account at a different time after the term has started. Please note that your loans will not be disbursed until after you have begun actual attendance at a half-time level (usually your 6th credit hour of courses). Please check your ASIST account to see when all of your financial aid and loans have disbursed. Your refund will be processed to your Higher One card with your Refund Preference 10-14 days after the credit appears on your student account.
If your credit is a result of overpayment, please email Student Refunds.
If you have chosen an installment plan, in order to receive your refund the remaining installments must be confirmed at zero prior to the processing of a refund.
Register your refund preference with Higher One according to instructions provided with your ID card. Choose from the following options:
Activate the Higher One card as a debit card account and have all credit balances refunded to that account. (Fastest Method!) This is also referred to as an Easy Refund.
Have the money refunded via electronic funds transfer to your checking account.
Automated: (preferred method) If you have federal loans as part of the financial aid package, AND have not specifically instructed us in writing to hold the credit balance, we will automatically refund the credit balance.
You can authorize Liberty University to hold your credit balance for future charges or to refund your credit balance from federal loans. When you go through Financial Check In, visit the "Credit Balance Options" page and make sure you answered "no" to this questions to ensure you will receive your refund as soon as possible. The answer to this question can be changed at any time.
Manual: For all others, you will need to request your refund by email, letter, fax or in person at our Student Service Center. Email is preferred. Please use studentrefunds@liberty.edu for Resident Students and LUOrefunds@liberty.edu for LU Online Students.
Parent PLUS Loan: The parents; unless they have given written authorization to Financial Aid that the student can have the refund).
All other student loans: The student.
Overpayment: The student submits written request with payee name and address.
Automated: refunds are processed automatically - a check will be mailed to the parent by Liberty.
