Activate/ Activation – the process of activating the Liberty OneCard by going online to verify that the card was received and to authenticate the recipient.
ACH Transfer – the financial refund preference that electronically deposits the financial refund into the personal bank account chosen. The ACH transfer form must be completed and received by Higher One to authorize the transaction. Funds are available within 3-5 business days after being released from the university.
ACH Transfer Form – a form required by Higher One which includes the bank account and routing numbers needed to deposit the financial refund to a personal bank account. When the ACH transfer option is chosen as a refund preference, the website prompts the user to complete the ACH transfer form. This form must be completed and received by Higher One to authorize the transaction.
Confirm Bank Account – the process of confirming a funding bank account through the OneAccount. To confirm the bank account, login to Higher One at
www.libertyuone.com. Enter information in Current User Login box. There will be a message requesting confirmation of the bank account. Click the link provided, select the proper bank account, insert the amount withdrawn and deposited from the funding bank account (check the funding bank account’s statement to find these numbers) and proceed as instructed.
Confirm E-mail – the process of confirming the e-mail address on file with Higher One. To confirm the e-mail address:
1) copy the confirmation code received in the e-mail
2) login to the OneAccount
3) click on the button next the e-mail address to confirm it is correct
4) click the link provided
5) paste the confirmation code into the area provided and proceed as instructed
EasyHelp – online assistance for Higher One. This feature is capable of answering questions in two ways: 1) Frequently Asked Questions and 2) Submit an Inquiry.
Easy Refund – the financial refund preference that automatically deposits the financial refund into the OneAccount. Funds are available within one business day after being released from the University.
Financial Refund – money refunded to the student from the University when their Student Account has an overpayment.
Funding Bank Account – a bank account from which funds are withdrawn to be deposited into the OneAccount.
Higher One – the company that distributes financial refunds and administrator of the OneAccount.
Liberty OneCard – the official Liberty University ID card which all students, faculty and staff are required to have in their possession at all times while on campus. It also becomes a MasterCard Debit Card if the optional OneAccount is opened.
Official Check – a check requested by the cardholder to be sent to their primary address from their OneAccount. The charge for this service is $10.00.
OneAccount – the optional FDIC insured checking account offered to every Liberty OneCard holder. During activation of the Liberty OneCard, the cardholder is given the option to open this account. If the Easy Refund option is chosen as the refund preference, the funds released by the University will be directly deposited into the OneAccount within one business day.
OneRewards – points awarded for making purchases at participating locations which can be redeemed from the online catalog found on the Higher One website www.libertyuone.com. Click on Rewards and Deals then Redemption Center.
Online Bill Pay - a service offered by Higher One which allows you to pay your bills online through their website www.libertyuone.com. Payments can be made either electronically or by check.
Password – a combination of letters and/or numbers created by the cardholder when activating their Liberty OneCard. It is used to gain access to the Higher One website.
Patriot Act – a Federal Government Act passed that requires all bank account holders to verify their identity.
PIN (personal ID number) – a number created when opening the OneAccount. The PIN will be required to withdraw money from an ATM, order an official check above $500, wire transfer funds above $500 and for PIN based purchases. REMINDER: There is a $2 transaction fee for all non-Higher One debit transactions, $10 service fee for official checks and $25 service fee for wire transfers in the USA.
Primary Address – the address on file with Higher One to which all Liberty OneCards, replacement Liberty OneCards, and paper checks will be sent.
Refund Preference – the two options given when activating the Liberty OneCard that specify how the cardholder would like to receive their financial refund; the options are Easy Refund or ACH Transfer. This preference can be changed by logging on to the Higher One website

Replacement Card – a new card issued to a student when the original card is lost, stolen or damaged beyond use. If a card is lost, stolen or misused by the student, there is a $30.00 replacement charge assessed to the student account.
Replacement Charge – the charge applied to the cardholder’s Student Account to cover the cost of a replacement card; the charge is $30.00.
Temporary ID – the ID issued when a replacement Liberty OneCard has been ordered. The temporary ID can be used for every
on-campus transaction; however, it cannot be used for the MasterCard debit feature.
Verify Identity (CIP) – the process used to prove that cardholders are legally who they claim to be. This process requires the presentation of a government issued photo ID (drivers license, passport, military ID). The information will be sent to Higher One to comply with the Patriot Act.
Wire Transfer – the process by which funds are electronically transferred immediately into a specified bank account from your OneAccount. The charge for this service is $25.00.
