Biography Kris Schimmels was born in Pittsburg, KS. However, her father had a less than distinguishing football coaching career and her family moved 6 times by the time she was 7. They eventually found a home in Wheaton, IL, where her father, Cliff Schimmels, was able to teach, coach, and write for 17 years. Her mother, Mary, was a librarian at the Billy Graham Center. The family was able to winter in Illinois and summer in Oklahoma. Kris graduated with a B.A. in Literature from Wheaton College in 1990 and promptly moved to Augusta, GA, where it was much warmer and did not snow, to teach at inner-city schools for 11 years. Most recently, she split her time teaching at Ocoee Middle School and Lee University, both in Cleveland, TN. Her favorite year was spent in Jinan, People’s Republic of China, where she taught Oral English and Composition at Shandong University. Kris has an older sister and an older brother, 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and a neurotic cat named Eli. She has also seen much of Europe and has spent 5 very hot summers in southern China. |
