Biography
Mr. Hammersmith returned to Liberty in 2006 to join the Department of English and Modern Languages where he teaches courses in freshmen composition and literature. After graduating from Liberty with a B.S. in English in 1997, he earned his M.Ed. in English Education from The Ohio State University in 1999. He went on to teach AP English and American Literature courses at public high schools in New Port Richey, Florida and Sunbury, Ohio, while also serving as an adjunct instructor at Pasco-Hernando Community College (FL) and Columbus State Community College (OH).

While a student at Liberty from 1994-97, he served as a Resident Director for the Department of Student Development. Prior to that, Mr. Hammersmith graduated from the Word of Life Bible Institute and School of Youth Ministries, Missions, and Evangelism in Schroon Lake, New York. He also worked for Word of Life Fellowship for five years as a chef in the food service departments in New York and Florida. He met his wife Tammy at Word of Life and they now have five children: Kylee, Zachary, Griffin, Marabeth, and Samuel. In 2005, his first novel, a Christian mystery-suspense, The Legend of Lake Marilee, was published.
