Sigma Delta Pi was originally started at the University of California at Berkeley in 1919. Its goal is to honor those who
study and who contribute to the body of knowledge in Hispanic-related subject areas. It also strives to encourage further study of these subjects and to encourage good relationships between countries whose native languages are Spanish or English. There are many benefits of membership, including awards and the opportunity to apply for scholarships.
Today, there are more than 500 Sigma Delta Pi chapters.
