Matt Staton currently serves Liberty as Assistant Athletics Director for Event Management, being promoted to that title in July 2013. He had previously held the position of Assistant Athletics Business Manager/Game Operations since 2011. In October 2009, Staton officially joined the athletics department as Game Operations Graduate Assistant. In his current role, Staton facilitates game-day operations for Liberty's athletics teams, working directly with coaches, visiting teams and officials. Staton assembles and supervises a group of practicum students, interns and student volunteers to assist at events and gain valuable work experience. He coordinates with on-campus groups for operation of events and supervises the events on game day. Staton is responsible for managing the game day expense budget as well as processing game contracts. He served as the host championship director for a variety of events on campus recently including the 2016 Big South Outdoor Track, Tennis, and Volleyball Championships as well the 2017 Big South Women's Basketball Championship and National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC). Staton holds membership with the College Event and Facilities Management Association (CEFMA). While completing his undergraduate studies at Liberty, Staton spent four seasons assisting the Flames' football staff as a student manager. He graduated from Liberty in May 2009 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and a business minor. He then earned his master's degree in management and leadership, also from Liberty, in May 2011. Staton and his wife, Kalea, currently reside in Lynchburg and are expecting their first child in January 2018.
