Following four years working at Tennessee, Trey Johnson joined Liberty's football staff in April 2017 as the program's Assistant Director of Player Personnel and Pro Scout Liaison.
In his Assistant Director of Player Personnel role, Johnson assists Liberty's football staff with their interaction with high school and junior college players and coaches from around the country. He also helps to facilitate the prospective student-athlete (PSA) evaluation process and the PSA database.
Johnson helps with all aspects of travel related to official visits, including scheduling and transportation, plus ensures that all NCAA mandated paperwork is completed in a timely manner during the official visit process. He also helps facilitate unofficial visit contact during Liberty's College for a Weekend events. On game day, Johnson assists with pregame recruiting presentations and facility tours.
Johnson also helps coordinate the social media efforts for the various Liberty Football social media accounts. In this portion of his role, he works with various campus departments on social media content and ensures that all social media dissemination for Liberty's football accounts meets NCAA standards.
Prior to joining Liberty's staff, Johnson spent four seasons (2013-17) working on the Tennessee Volunteers football staff, including his last years as a graduate assistant in recruiting (2015-17). Tennessee's recruiting class ranked inside the top 15 in the country each of his four year with the program. During his first two years with the football program (2013-15), Johnson served as a recruiting analyst before transitioning into this graduate assistant role.
Johnson also spent a year working as a marketing associate at Tennessee, assisting with social media outreach to all incoming and prospective University of Tennessee students.
Johnson received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Tennessee. He completed a bachelor's degree in business/sports management in May 2015 and a master's degree in recreation and sports management in December 2016.
Johnson is a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., where he attended Boyd Buchanan High School. He was named team captain for the football and basketball teams as a senior, while serving as the Boyd Buchanan High School FCA president for two years
