Tim East joined the Liberty Athletics administrative staff on July 27, 2015, when he was named the department's Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations.
East manages all aspects of Liberty's external operations with direct oversight of communications, sponsorships, tickets, fan experience, promotions, development, broadcasting and video services.
Prior to joining the Liberty athletics department, East was a 20-year member of Virginia Tech's athletics department, including an eight-year span as Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs (2006-2014).
East joined the athletics department in Blacksburg, Va., as Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions in 1994. He was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing & Promotions in 1996.
In his role as Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs, East served on the athletics director's executive staff and senior staffs. He also had direct oversight for the Hokies' men's and women's golf programs, spirit squads, sports marketing & promotions, athletics communications, ticketing services, HokieSports.com website and concessionaire.
East also served as Virginia Tech's athletics departmental liaison to Virginia Tech Athletic Fund, Virginia Tech Licensing and Trademarks Office, XOS Digital Licensing, Virginia Tech Services, Replay Photos, IMG College, IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions, Gatorade and Nike.
During his two decades in charge of the external message at Virginia Tech, East assisted with the athletics department's transition through three different conferences (Metro Conference to Atlantic 10 in 1995, Atlantic 10 to Big East in 2000 and the Big East to ACC in 2004).
East's aggressive marketing efforts resulted in more than $180 million in ticket sales during his 20 years with the Hokies. His marketing vision helped Virginia Tech have a 93-game home football game sellout streak that spanned 15 years (1998 to 2012).
East cultivated a game day environment at Virginia Tech through the years that helped Blacksburg grow to have one of the best game day atmospheres and team entrance videos in all of college football.
In 2014, East helped complete negotiations with Nike for a multi-year contract for the athletics department to make Virginia Tech one of Nike's premier college programs, benefitting all of the Hokies' athletics programs.
East also helped to create Inside Hokie Sports, a four-color magazine that is published 11 times a year and distributed to all Virginia Tech Athletic Fund members.
Additionally, East oversaw the creation of HokieSports Weekly, an online publication recapping the previous week's athletics results with a heavy photographic emphasis. The page is one of the most visited sites on HokieSports.com.
Prior to his time in Blacksburg, East served as the marketing manager for VP International, the publisher of Golf Illustrated magazine, for three years (1991-94). He also served as the Associate Athletic Development and Marketing Director at Long Beach State from 1988-91 and Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions at the University of Miami from 1986-88.
