Ernest Carter joined the Liberty Athletics Department in March of 2014, and currently serves as the department's Athletics External Events Coordinator.
Carter is responsible for facilitating all external athletics events taking place on Liberty University's campus as well as bringing new events to the university. Upon joining the department, Carter played a role in attracting and recruiting the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Spring Jubilee and Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) All-Star games to Liberty for a three-year term (2014-16). Carter also assists Liberty's coaches with the coordination of sports camps and recruitment of new on-campus events.
Since joining the athletics department, Carter has been instrumental in recruiting and attracting the Virginia Commonwealth Games to Liberty for a five-year commitment (2016-20) and the State Games of America in 2019.
Before joining Liberty Athletics, Carter served as the Director of Event Management for Liberty University from Sept. 2006 to Nov. 2013, directing external events and summer camps for the university. Carter was also the general manager for the Liberty Mountain Conference Center from May 2010 to November 2013, managing the day-to-day operations of the facility. Prior to his tenure at Liberty, he worked for Carter Bank & Trust for 18 years.
Carter received an associate's degree in business administration from Patrick Henry Community College ('92), before earning his bachelors of science from Averett University. He most recently completed his Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University Theological Seminary in 2006. Carter also received the 2015 Distinquished Alumni Award from Patrick Henry Community College on May 8, 2015.
Carter is married to the former Amber Mastenbrook. They currently reside in Forest, Va., with their three sons Caleb, Micah and Josiah.
