Title: Director of Spiritual Development

• January 2001

Football Staff Responsibilities:
• Oversee the spiritual development of the football players by encouraging the student-athletes to understand who they are in Christ and to use their God-given talents to impact others through Whole-Person Development
• Responsible for setting up team chapels and discipleship programs
• Developing one-on-one relationships with coaches, support staff, players and others outside the football program
• Serves as the liaison between the University's Office of Student Affairs and the football program
• Member of the Athletics Department's Champions Performance team

Flames Football Highlights (Coaching Staff):
• Senior member of Liberty's football coaching staff, working with the program since 2001
• Helped the Flames win eight Big South Conference titles at the FCS level (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016)
• Helped the Flames post an 8-5 record in their first full season at the FBS level in 2019
• Liberty defeated Georgia Southern in the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl, becoming the third team in NCAA history to win a bowl game during its first season at the FBS level

Road to Liberty University:

- Helped the university's commuting students connect with on-campus life
• Associate Pastor – New Bedford, Mass. (1986-95)
- Also served as chaplain for the local police force during his pastoral tenure and board member with the Kiwanis Club and local Y.M.C.A in New Bedford

Getting to Know Ed Gomes:
• Graduate of Liberty University (1976, 1985 and 2007)
• B.S. in Youth Ministries
• Completed his seminary degree in 1985
• Received his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in 2007
• Three-year starting point guard on the men's basketball team (1974-76)
• Liberty's single season record holder with 256 assists and 137 steals during his senior seasons
• Liberty's all-time leader with 300 career steals and ranks fifth on the school's all-time list with 476 assists
• Author of " Building A Legacy and Discipleship for Student Athletes", a discipleship manual and guide for coaches, parents and leaders to cultivate and shape relationships with the next generation
• A member of the pastoral staff at Thomas Road Baptist Church
