After helping Incarnate Word reach the NCAA FCS Playoffs during its second year of postseason eligibility, Rickey Hunley helped Liberty win its first-ever bowl game during his first season at cornerbacks coach in 2019.
During his one season at Incarnate Word, Hunley served as safeties coach and recruiting coordinator in 2018. After completing their transition process from Division II to the FCS level of Division I football, Hunley helped the Cardinals post a 6-2 record in conference play in 2018, capturing the Southland Conference title and earning a berth into the playoffs. Incarnate Word led the Southland Conference and ranked fourth nationally turnovers gained (30).
Prior to his year at Incarnate Word, Hunley served as linebacker coach and special teams coordinator at West Georgia (2015-17). Working alongside fellow Liberty coaching staff John Aldrdige, Sam Gregg and Scott Symons, Hunley helped West Georgia to two NCAA Division II playoff appearances (2015 and 2017), a 12-win season, NCAA Division II Super Region title and the Gulf South Conference crown in 2015.
Hunley also spent two seasons at Southwest Baptist (2013-14), as well as time at Lindenwood (2012) and his alma mater Drake (2007). He broke into the coaching professional level at the high school level in Missouri (2010-11) and Iowa (2004-06) and served as an athletic academic coordinator at Iowa State from 2008.
