Miriam Rutzen

Title: Graduate Assistant

Miriam Rutzen, formerly director of operations for Colorado women's basketball and a standout player at Harvard, began serving as Liberty's graduate assistant in August 2017. Her primary responsibilities include coordinating the team's managers, practice players and social media.

A native of Blandinsville, Ill., Rutzen spent two seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16) as Colorado's director of operations.

Rutzen was a four-year letter winner (2009-13) and co-captain at Harvard, where she ranks among the program's career top 10 for blocked shots and games played. Rutzen earned Harvard's Best Defensive Player Award in back-to-back seasons (2010-11 and 2011-12). She also helped the Crimson post a pair of Ivy League runner-up finishes and garner two Postseason WNIT berths.

Rutzen has also served as an IEP specialist, substitute teacher, basketball camp director, sixth grade girls' basketball coach and volunteer assistant varsity softball coach for her alma mater, the Biggsville West Central School District.

An avid traveler, Rutzen visited five continents during the 2016-17 school year, including stops at Cameroon, Machu Picchu and Tokyo among many others.

Rutzen received her A.B. degree in psychology from Harvard in 2013, along with a secondary degree in sociology. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in industrial organizational psychology from Liberty.
