John Cassady

Title: Volunteer Assistant Coach

John Cassady joined the Liberty softball coaching staff in the summer of 2015. Cassady currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach on Dot Richardson's staff.

In his current role at Liberty, Cassady focuses primarily on infield and pitching instruction. In addition, he also serves as first-base coach during games.

During his first three seasons on staff, the Lady Flames have posted a 126-66 record (.656), including a combined 95-38 (.714) between 2017 and 2018. He helped Liberty to back-to-back Big South regular-season titles (2017-18), while Liberty won the 2017 Postseason NISC championship. In 2018, Liberty went 49-14, claiming the Big South Softball Championship title and advancing to the NCAA Columbia Regional final.

Cassady and the rest of the Liberty coaches were honored as the 2018 NFCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.

Cassady brings many years of softball coaching experience, both as a coach and clinician.

He coached the Dot's Diamonds 10U team to a national championship in 1997. Additionally, he has served as a clinician for camps through the Dot Richardson Softball Series.

Cassady owned and operated Powerline Fastpitch with current Liberty assistant coach Paige Cassady in Central Florida, offering lessons and camps.

During the 2012 season, he was pitching coach for Montverde Academy, before working as pitching coach at The First Academy in 2013 and 2014.

He has experience coaching with the Windermere Wildfire and Team North Florida travel ball teams.

Cassady recently retired from UPS, where he was a business manager for 34 years in Central Florida.

He has been married to his wife, Regina, for 33 years. The couple currently lives in Lynchburg, and they have four children – Matt, Courtney, Paige and Chase. Paige played collegiate softball at Presbyterian College and Florida International and currently serves as an assistant coach at Liberty, while Chase is a freshman pitcher on Liberty's softball team.
