Following Liberty's final practice of the week on Thursday, Liberty Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with Flames' junior A.C. Reid.
Reid and the Flames will open their 2016-17 season on Friday night in the Vines Center when they host Cairn at 8:30 p.m., as part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. The Lady Flames will open their campaign against Duke at 6 p.m.
Reid is one of four upperclassmen on a youthful Flames' roster. During the 2015-16 season, the native of Spring Branch, Texas, appeared in all 32 games and started 12 contests. The 6-5 guard/forward led the Flames with 60 three-point field goals and finished the season averaging 7.8 points per contest.
Reid and the Flames are under the direction of head coach Ritchie McKay, who is beginning the second year of his second stint at Liberty (also coached the Flames during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons). Last year, an upstart Liberty team finished in fifth place in the Big South standings after being predicted to finish in 11th place. This season, the Flames are projected to finish the league in second place.
