Liberty's long jump crew continued its impressive season on a light opening day of action at the Virginia Grand Prix, Friday at Lannigan Field.
Two-time reigning ASUN Women's Freshman of the Week Makenzy Mizera got things started on a damp, breezy evening by reaching 18-11.25 for fourth place in the women's long jump's invitational section.
Three of Mizera's teammates later posted top-eight finishes in the event's open section. They included Alexis Rolan (fifth place, season-best 18-3), Jamie Gray (seventh place, 17-11.75) and Hannah Andrews (eighth place, 17-11.5).
Jeremy Davis came in sixth in the men's long jump, thanks to a 23-3.5 leap. The redshirt sophomore, one of only two ASUN long jumpers to sail past 23 feet this season, has now done so twice in eight days. Davis previously reached a career-best 23-7.5 during the Virginia Challenge decathlon long jump last Friday.
Freshman Mackenzie Hainley paced Liberty's throwers on Friday, heaving the spear 131-3 for seventh place in the women's javelin.
Up Next The Virginia Grand Prix will conclude with a full day of action on Saturday. The women's hammer will get things started at Lannigan Field at 11:30 a.m. The men's 4 x 100 relay will be the day's first running event, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
