Liberty's Delaney McDowell, a four-time conference champion at the 800-meter distance, made a successful seasonal debut in the four-lap race, Friday at the Tyson Invitational. The senior's 2:08.27 clocking at the Randal Tyson Track Center is the fastest indoor time of her career and the best effort by an ASUN 800-meter runner this season.
McDowell placed sixth in the event with a time which ranks her No. 3 in program history. She also qualified for the ECAC meet in a fourth different event this season, along with the 1,000, mile and 4 x 400 relay.
Fellow senior Alejandro Perlaza Zapata came in 12th in the seeded portion of the men's 400 with a 48.42 clocking.
All-American Jovaine Atkinson posted his fastest 60 hurdles time (8.01) since the season-opening Hokie Invitational on Jan. 18. However, he was unable to advance to the final.

Up Next The Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men's long jump, women's long jump and women's pole vault. Running events will commence with the men's 60 hurdles prelims at 11 a.m. The day will feature a recognition of Darius Dixon's life at 12:35 p.m., just prior to his signature event, the 400-meter dash.
Ty'Asia Dansbury will get Liberty's Saturday started at the Tyson Invitational, competing in the women's 200 at 2 p.m. Eastern.
