Liberty's women's shuttle hurdles relay quartet of Tiffany Jeffcoat, Katie Dodson, Kylie Polsgrove and Jaiden Mulder put an exclamation mark on the host team's opening day of the fifth annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Their winning time of 34.69 seconds took down the Liberty, facility and meet records.

Patria Vaimaona (women's weight throw) was also victorious for the Lady Flames on a light day of action which featured only five event finals.

At last year's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 2, 2018), Liberty's team of Mulder, Polsgrove, Kimone Green and Dodson had established the program, facility and meet records of 35.08 for the rarely contested women's shuttle hurdles relay.

On Friday, three of the four legs returned, with Jeffcoat replacing the since-graduated Green. Liberty was challenged by East Carolina throughout the evening's final event, before Mulder's 8.50-second anchor leg enabled the home team to overtake the Pirates and set the Lady Flames' first school record of the 2019 indoor season.

Just minutes earlier, Vaimaona had wrapped up her third consecutive women's weight throw victory, following her triumphs at the Liberty Kickoff and Liberty Flames Invite. The two-time defending ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week matched her personal best of 63-7.5 to defeat East Carolina's Kourtney Edwards-Campbell by a foot and a half.

The Lady Flames boasted four of the competition's top nine women's weight throwers, also including an impressive third-place finish by Marvalyn Vernon. Competing in a Liberty uniform for just the second time, the LSU transfer reached a lifetime-best 61-3, becoming the fourth Lady Flame ever to top the 60-foot mark.
