Liberty Pulls Away for 7-2 Win Over New Mexico

Kastin Belogorska earned her first career win on Saturday against New Mexico.

Liberty used late-inning offense and excellent relief pitching by freshman Kastin Belogorska to earn a 7-2 win over New Mexico on Saturday at McCombs Field.

The Lady Flames improve to 9-12 on the season, including 2-1 at the Longhorn Invitational, while the Lobos fall to 11-12 and 1-2 so far this weekend.

Liberty has won eight out of its last nine games, scoring six or more runs seven times during that stretch.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit the Lobos 7-6 for the game, while the Lady Flames committed two out of the game's three errors. The Lady Flames left six runners on base while New Mexico stranded five.  

- Kastin Belogorska (1-2) earned her first career victory, tossing five innings of relief in which she allowed one unearned run on three hits, striking out four. At one point, she retired 12 straight batters. Starter Karlie Keeney allowed one run on three hits in two innings pitched with one strikeout.    

- Kiana Spencer (7-2) drew the loss, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Brianna Sanchez and Baile Klitzke pitched 2/3 of an inning each.

- Amber Bishop batted 1-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and one run scored. Blake Gibson, Kara Canetto and Savannah Channell had one double each.   

- Gavyn Shafer went 2-for-3 for New Mexico, posting the Lobos' lone RBI.

Turning Point
- With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the third, Belogorska came on in relief of Keeney with nobody out and two on. After giving up a bunt hit to load the bases, Belogorska got out of the jam unscathed with a flyout and two strikeouts.

- Liberty manufactured a run in the bottom of the fifth. Via led off with a single before a Channell sacrifice bunt sent her to second. Via went to third on a passed ball before scoring on a squeeze bunt by Gibson for a 2-1 lead. Canetto then doubled before Amber Bishop's homer made it 4-1.

Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty earned its first win over New Mexico in softball, as the Lobos now lead the all-time series 2-1.

- Amber Bishop passed Ashley Williams (2005-08) for the program record with her 169th career RBI.   
- Kastin Belogorska is the third Liberty newcomer to earn a pitching victory this season, joining classmate Karlie Keeney and junior college transfer Megan Johnson.

- Liberty has recorded four sacrifice flies in the team's last four games.
