Liberty's contingent of three freshmen continued to gain postseason experience, competing on one-meter springboard during the second day of the 2019 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, at the U.S. Naval Academy's Lejeune Hall.
Liberty freshmen Lauren Chennault (28th place), Olivia Robinson (37th) and Abigail Egolf-Jensen (53rd) all competed in one-meter diving prelims.
During this week's three-day meet, the top 18 from morning prelims each day qualify for evening finals. The top six combined scores from prelims and finals in one-meter diving qualify for the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
Liberty's Top Performers on Day 2 • Fr. Lauren Chennault – One-meter diving (6) – 239.00 (28th place in prelims)
• Fr. Olivia Robinson – One-meter diving (6) – 228.25 (37th place in prelims)
• Fr. Abigail Egolf-Jensen – One-meter diving (6) – 205.20 (53rd place in prelims)
Notable • Zone A includes schools from Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine.
• A total of 64 divers competed in the women's one-meter springboard this afternoon.
Historically Speaking • This is the first NCAA postseason appearance for Liberty's divers. The Lady Flames are attempting to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, held in Austin, Texas, March 20-23.
• Liberty has sent swimmers to the NCAA Championships five times in program history, including each of the last two years.
