Lady Flames Top Camels 159-98 in Season Opener

Liberty opened its 2018-19 season with a 159-98 victory over longtime CCSA foe Campbell, Saturday at the Johnson Aquatic Center.

The Lady Flames (1-0) and Camels (0-1) met in their season opener for the fifth year in a row. Liberty is now 12-2 all-time against Campbell in swimming & diving, having won the last 12 meetings in a row.

Notable
• Gianni Pitto swam the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 400 IM, becoming the first Lady Flame in program history to win three events in her collegiate debut.

• Saturday's win pushed Liberty's dual-meet winning streak to nine in a row, dating back to the Gardner-Webb Tri Meet on Oct. 27, 2017.

• Colleen Donlin has won the 50 free at each of Liberty's last three dual meets, a streak which started on January 20, 2018.

• Brittany Weiss has won the 100 backstroke in each of Liberty's last 10 meets, including the 2017 Frank Elm Invite, 2018 CCSA Championships and 2018 Liberty Last Chance Meet.

• Liberty posted a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 500 free, as Manly, Emily Zimcosky, Arielle Arnett and Alicia Finnigan took first through fourth, in that order.

Historically Speaking
• Gianni Pitto now ranks sixth in program history in the 400 IM (4:28.95), ninth in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.83) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.57).

• Emma Hazel is now 10th in program history in the 200 backstroke (2:03.69).

Up Next
Liberty will compete in New Mexico for the first time in program history at the New Mexico State Duals in Las Cruces, N.M., next Friday and Saturday. The trip will coincide with Liberty's football game at New Mexico State.
