Bongart won both of her singles matches on Friday in Florida.
Lady Flames seniors Lara Soares and Ashley Bongart combined to go 5-0 on day one of the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, Friday at the Lakewood Ranch Tennis Center.
Soares and Bongart each won two singles matches on the day and picked up a doubles victory as well at the prestigious event, the only collegiate clay court tournament in the country.
"Lara and Ashley elevated their level of preparation, focus and execution," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Associate Head Coach Giancarlo Lemmi. "The result was an undefeated day against the best teams in the nation!!! We are looking forward to going back there again tomorrow."
Soares first defeated Florida Gulf Coast's Julia Ascua in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) in the round of 32. She then outlasted Ksenia Kuznetsova of UCF in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). Soares will meet Evelyne Tiron of USF in the quarterfinals, tomorrow.
Bongart won both of her matches in the top half of the draw, first besting UAB's Sophie Dodds 6-1, 6-1. Bongart, who hails from Bradenton, Fla., just down the road from Lakewood Ranch, advanced to the quarterfinals along with Soares with a three-set triumph (7-6 (5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-5)) over USF's Ana Roman Dominguez. The senior will face Marina Guinart (No. 73 player in the country) of Oklahoma State in Saturday's quarterfinals.
Bongart and Soares picked up a 6-1 victory in the round of 16 doubles draw against FGCU's Bridget Forster and Sara Kelly. They will face UCF's Kuznetsova and Natalia Serrano in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
The action resumes tomorrow at the Lakewood Ranch Tennis Center at 8:30 a.m.
