Improved playing conditions lowered scores during the second day of the First American Mortgage Intercollegiate where Liberty remains in fifth place.

With the remnants of Hurricane Nate having cleared the greater Nashville area overnight, The Grove Club (par 72, 7,389) played nearly four strokes less than it did during Sunday's round which was played in rainy and windy conditions.

The 68-man field played Middle Tennessee's home course at a 73.81 stroke average on Monday, as compared to Sunday's 77.68 stroke average.

All 12 teams in the field improved on Monday with the Flames carding an even par 288 to enter tomorrow's final round with an overall 14-over par 590 (302-288).

Defending champion Ole Miss holds a small one-stroke lead over Georgia Tech, who took advantage of the better playing conditions on Monday.

The Rebels fired a 3-under par 285 and leads the field with an overall 4-under par 572 (287-285). The Yellow Jackets had four of their five starters card scores in red figures, allowing Georgia Tech to card a tournament record 12-under par 276 and give them an aggregate 3-under par 573 (297-276) heading into the final round.

Tournament host Middle Tennessee is in third place with an overall 6-over par 582 (292-290), while Cincinnati is one shot ahead of Liberty with an overall 13-over par 589 (304-285).

A total of 20 players finished with under-par scores on Monday, including Ole Miss' Braden Thornberry who tied a tournament record 18-hole individual score. He fired a 6-under par 66, allowing him to take the clubhouse lead with an overall 5-under par 139 (73-66).

Liberty's Mickey DeMorat was also among the group of 20 player to finish under par on Monday, as the senior completed his second day with a 3-under par 69. A clean card with three birdies allowed him to move into a tie for third place with an overall 2-under par 142 (73-69).

Evan Chang climbed five spots up the leaderboard, offsetting four birdies with three bogeys and a double bogey to move into a share of 18th place with an overall 4-over par 148 (76-72).

Gabe Lench led the Flames on the day with five birdies, allowing the junior to move 13 places up the leaderboard to a share of 34th place with an overall 8-over par 152 (80-72).

Alexandre Fuchs (75-78) and Isaiah Logue (78-75) share 42nd place enter tomorrow's final round with an overall 9-over par 153.

Liberty's golfers will be among the first to tackle the Greg Norman designed golfer course during the final round on Tuesday. The Flames will be paired with Kennesaw State and be sent off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 421 yards) starting at 8 a.m. (CST).
