Tevan McIntire is in second place in the heptathlon after day one of the 2012 Liberty Kickoff.
Liberty redshirt sophomore Tevan McIntire got his 2012-13 indoor track & field season off to a successful start at the Liberty Kickoff inside the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. He scored 2,723 points during Friday's quartet of heptathlon events and currently ranks second in the competition. McIntire's score of 2,723, which is his best-ever day one heptathlon point tally, has him just 58 points behind event leader Scott Campbell of Virginia Tech. McIntire's most impressive result of the day came in the shot put, where he placed second among the heptathletes with a personal-best mark of 40-2.25. McIntire then closed out his day with a solid 6-1.5 high jump clearance. Junior Harrison Allen sits in fourth place, after scoring 2,547 points on Friday. His shot put of 37-6.5 was Allen's longest heave within a heptathlon during his career. Allen was also the competition's third-best high jumper, with a third-attempt clearance at 5-11.25. The ninth annual Liberty Kickoff will conclude with a full slate of events on Saturday. The women's weight throw will get things started bright and early at 8:30 a.m. Running events are set to commence at 9:15 a.m., with the women's 5K. The heptathlon will resume with the 60-meter hurdles at approximately 11:25 a.m.
