Liberty junior Emilie Kaufman was named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.
Following a record-setting meet at the Hokie Fall Invitational, Liberty junior Emilie Kaufman was named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Women's Swimmer of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. Kaufman, a Kirkland, Wash., product and transfer from Rutgers, earns her second Swimmer of the Week award this year, as she was also honored on Oct. 17. She is the first Lady Flame to receive two CCSA Swimmer of the Week awards during the same season. Kaufman lowered three individual program records and competed on one record-setting relay last week. She swam 1:01.85 in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, setting a new conference record while also meeting the NCAA Division I B standard and US Open cut. Kaufman completed the 200 individual medley in 2:04.35, breaking the previous program record of 2:04.51. She also lowered her own program standard in the 200 breaststroke to 2:19.12. She helped Liberty set a program record in the 200 medley relay, swimming the second leg in 28.26. At present, Kaufman holds the top time in the CCSA in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. The Lady Flames' next intercollegiate meet will take place on Jan. 5, when Liberty competes in a quad meet at Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. Before that, select members of the Liberty swimming team will compete in the 2012 USA Swimming Winter National Championships, held in Austin, Texas from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.
