Annisha Domenech notched a singles win and a doubles win with partner Nicola Wellman at the Cougar Fall Open.
The Liberty Lady Flames women's tennis team concluded a tough fall tournament slate this weekend at the University of Houston's Cougar Fall Open. Competing against a challenging lineup of opponents, Liberty posted a trio of wins in both singles and doubles action for the weekend.
In doubles play, Liberty's Jessie Boda and Brittany Yang rolled past Texas State's Rachel Baldree and Monica Pieratt, 8-1, in the first round of the Chandi Jones Doubles Draw. Boda and Yang dropped their semifinal matchup to Ashley Kitchen and Michala Kucharova of Auburn, 8-4.
The Lady Flames' Cameron Richard and Alexandra Sheeran fell in a hard-fought opening round tilt in the Zina Garrison Doubles Draw, 9-7, to Berenice Van den Bergh and Francesca Bernes of Texas State. The Liberty duo rebounded with an 8-5 victory over Houston's Charlotte Phillips and Jo Garvey.
Annisha Domenech and Nicola Wellman collected the third doubles win for the Lady Flames, knocking off Megan Ziots and Paulina Blanc of TCU in a consolation matchup of the Dale Jones Doubles Draw, 8-0.
In the Tom Landry Singles Draw, Liberty's Valerie Thong downed Rice's Liat Zimmerman in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The sophomore's run was ended in the semifinals by Emma Isberg of Denver, 6-4, 6-2.
Domenech also notched a first-round win for the Lady Flames, rolling past Gabriella Jansson of Houston, 6-0, 6-2, in the Clyde Drexler Singles Draw. The Florida native battled Natalia Mayagoitia of Lamar in the semifinals, but fell in a tough three-set match, 6-7, 6-4, 10-8.
Rebekah Jenkins recorded the third singles victory of the weekend for Liberty. In the consolation bracket of the Leroy Burrell Singles Draw, Jenkins downed Iowa State's Claudia Ortiz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Liberty's 2013 spring schedule begins on Jan. 19 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invite in Fort Myers, Fla.
