The Liberty Flames men's soccer team will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in the final regular season contest for both teams, Friday evening. The Big South match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Before the game, the seniors on the Liberty roster will be recognized. Liberty enters the contest with an eight game unbeaten streak (6-0-2). It is the longest unbeaten span for the Flames since closing the 2008 season with an eight game streak (5-0-3).

Freshman midfielder Sachem Wilson scored twice, the first two goals of his collegiate career, pushing the Flames past the Highlanders. Forward Kyle Breitmeyer leads the Flames with 15 points on the season. He enters the week tied for fifth in the Big South with seven goals. Five of Breitmeyer's goals have come against Big South Conference opponents. Defender Sam Duininck has scored three goals for the Flames. Senior defender Greg White and Wilson have netted two markers. Five other Liberty players have scored a goal. Midfielder Johnny Torres and defenders Tim Harbison and Uriah Bentick are tied for the team lead with three assists each. Goalkeeper Scott Sutarik has played over 1,235 minutes between the posts this season and enters Friday's contest with a 1.17 goals-against average and .746 save percentage. The sophomore goalkeeper has four shutouts. He has started every game of Liberty's unbeaten streak, posting a 0.70 goals-against average and three shutouts. Head Coach Jeff Alder has led the Flames to a 116-85-21 record during his 12 seasons. Alder's Flames posted an 11-6-3 record in 2011, en route to their second Big South Conference crown and fifth consecutive season with a double-digit win total.
All-Time Against UNC Asheville Friday's match between the Flames and Bulldogs will be the 29th meeting on the soccer pitch between the two schools. Liberty leads the all-time series, 21-5-2. Last season, Liberty brought home a 3-0 win from Asheville on Oct. 29, 2011. Current Flames defender Uriah Bentick scored in the contest. Liberty also won the last meeting between the two teams at Osborne Stadium, 2-0, on Nov. 6, 2010. Current senior forward Travis Joseph scored a goal in the contest.
Look at UNC Asheville The Bulldogs (1-15, 0-9 Big South) will complete their 2012 campaign, Friday. Asheville has not played in five days since falling at Campbell, 5-1. Forward Trey Hemphill leads the Bulldogs with seven points. The freshman has scored two goals and assisted on three others. Teammate David Parra also has three assists to tie Hemphill for the team lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Jackson has started 14 of Asheville's 16 games. He enters Friday night's contest with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .709 save percentage. Head Coach Matt Kern is in his third year at Asheville, posting having posted a 9-40-4 mark.
The Conference Run Down With its win at Radford Tuesday evening, Liberty has moved into second place in the Big South standings, having compiled 20 points with a 6-1-2 record. In addition, the Flames have clinched one of the top four seeds for the Big South Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game at Osborne Stadium on Tuesday. With one game remaining for each team on the Big South schedule, Liberty leads Radford (19) by one point and Campbell (18) by two points in the league standings. Coastal Carolina has already wrapped up the top seed with a 9-0 record. High Point with 17 points and Winthrop with 16 are also still in the hunt for one of the top four seeds.
Overtime Overload Tuesday evening was the first time in five outings that Liberty did not have to go to overtime. In the Flames previous four matches, they needed more than the regulation 90 minutes to determine the outcome. Liberty played extra minutes in each of their games since a 3-2 overtime victory at VMI on Oct. 16, posting a 2-0-2 record.
75 and Counting Senior defender Greg White will start his 75th consecutive match, Friday night. The defender and two-time Liberty team captain has started every game of his Flames career. His streak started on Sept. 1, 2009 in a 10-1 Liberty victory over Concord. This season and last season, he has played every minute in each of Liberty's contests.
A Look Ahead Seeding for the 2012 Big South Men's Soccer Championship will be determined Saturday evening. Liberty, which has already clinched one of the top four seeds for the tournament, will host a yet to be determined opponent at Osborne Stadium, Tuesday night. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
