The Liberty Lady Flames earned a clean sweep of the NorPac Eastern Division weekly awards, as announced Monday by the conference. Natalie Barr was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Mallory Cuccio and Abbey Basom earned Defensive and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
This is the third weekly award for Barr this season. The Northern Ireland native was named Co-Rookie of the Week on Sept. 11 and Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18. In Liberty's three wins last week, Barr tallied 15 shots, five goals, two assists and two defensive saves. The freshman's biggest game came against Appalachian State on Friday night. Barr scored a program single-game record four goals against the Mountaineers. She also tallied an assist for a total of nine points as Liberty picked up the, 8-1, victory.
Cuccio was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. It is the second Defensive award for the Lady Flames this year, with Brooke Morley earning the award on Aug. 28. Cuccio posted a perfect 3-0 mark in goal this past week to improve her overall record for the season to 7-1. The Colorado native picked up shutouts against Longwood and Davidson, helping the Lady Flames move into first place in the NorPac East. Against Longwood, Cuccio tallied six saves, before blocking five shots against Davidson for her fourth shutout of the year.
Basom earned the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. On Aug. 28, the Pennsylvania native was named the Co-Rookie of the Week along with Radford's Stacey Mackintosh. Basom tallied points in each of Liberty's three wins last week. She finished the week with eight shots, three goals and three assists. Against Davidson, the freshman tallied a pair of goals as the Lady Flames ran their win streak to four games.
Liberty takes to the road for its final two regular-season contests this weekend. On Friday, the Lady Flames will battle Appalachian State at 4 p.m., before finishing the year at Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
