Junior Emilie Kaufman was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday.
Liberty junior Emilie Kaufman has been named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday, for her record-setting debut on Saturday at Campbell. Kaufman, a native of Kirkland, Wash., made an immediate impact for the Lady Flames in her first meet since transferring from Rutgers. She broke Liberty's program record in the 100 breaststroke, and her time of 1:03.24 currently ranks No. 6 in the nation among NCAA Division I women's swimmers. She then went on to win the 100 fly in 56.56, which is second in program history to Bethany Wakeley's conference-winning time of 54.77 at the 2012 CCSA Championships. Kaufman played a key role in Liberty's victorious 200 medley relay, swimming the 50 breaststroke in 28.46 during the second leg to help the Lady Flames post a time of 1:46.90. Kaufman's efforts aided Liberty in a season-opening, 147-112 win over CCSA opponent Campbell on Saturday. Kaufman is the third Liberty swimmer to be named CCSA Swimmer of the Week in the three-year history of the program. Brye Ravettine and Erin Curry have previously been tabbed Swimmer of the Week. The Lady Flames continue their season on Saturday at 11 a.m., competing in the Virginia Tech Sprint Classic at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Liberty will meet the host Hokies, along with CCSA opponents Gardner-Webb and VMI.
